Candles by Maria Buytaert- Recycling candle wax

A Maria Buytaert Candle is manufactured, on average, out of 1kg of top-quality paraffin. Even though it will burn right down to the very bottom, some of the wax (from the wings/blossoms) remains unused. Of course, one can leave the unique wax formation as decoration, but this leftover wax can also be recycled - in order to create your own candles and to make room for the next beautiful Maria Buytaert Candle in the latest fashionable colour.

Below you will find instructions on how to melt leftover wax and create something new. There are only a few simple steps which can easily be done together with children (under supervision, of course).

Which materials are needed?

  • Leftover wax from a Maria Buytaert Candle
  • A muffin tin
  • Paper muffin cups
  • Tea light candles (preferably certified by the RAL Quality Mark for candles), 12 -24 depending on the amount of leftover wax
  • A pot
  • A measuring cup, laddle or something similar for pouring

How long does it take?

The whole process takes about 20 minutes. Allow for extra time when doing this with children.

The cooling time is approx. 2 hours.

And this is how it works:

Remove the tea light candles from their aluminium container.

Place the paper muffic cups in the muffin tin

Set 1 tea light into the centre of each muffic cup.

Melt the wax on low heat until it is liquid. Remove any leftover wick.

Slowly pour (either out of a pot with a spout, with a measuring cup or with a laddle) the liquid paraffin into the paper muffin cups until the teal light is covered. Make sure that enough wick is left uncovered.

Let the new candles cool for approximately 2 hours.

Carefully peel the paper off of the candles.

You can now use your new candles to brighten up your table decoration. These colourful creations also float and are perfectly suited for flower arrangements.
